Thursday evening I received a phone call from out neighbour to say I should send Sqeze round – there was a large parcel for me in their hallway. They had kindly taken it in for us. Sqeze came back with a ginormous parcel, which turned out to be three parcels taped together and wrapped in brown [...]
Thanks to Wietske for passing on this piece of news to me. I don’t know how she found out about it. I was certainly blissfully unaware that I had been nominated the People’s Choice for my entry to the Charles Henry Foyle Award this year.
Wietske took a people’s award for technical excellence, which was [...]
In my gallery you can now see the album of photos taken at the exhibition. There is at least one image of all the different pieces. As you can see they were varied and interesting. If any one gets the chance to visit I can highly recommend it. Take time to read the workbooks (I didn’t [...]
Well I have the answer to my question as to the size of the piece. Wietske was kind enough to pass on the answer she received from Jo-Ann to the same question concerning the size constraints. Donna visited the museum and discussed her plans with Jo-Ann, the curator of the exhibition. She chose her spot and [...]
Well a couple of days have gone by since I got back from the UK and the opening of the exhibition. I have had time to reflect and collect my thoughts together. You wouldn’t believe what a relief it is to be finally finished. Well all bar the shouting anyway. I have just spent the best week of the summer so far with my nose so close to the grind stone that it is worn flat. BUT I have finished the object that is to be my submission [...]
I’ve started another fabric portrait today. I’m using the techniques I learnt when I took the QU class and made my Dad’s portrait. But this time I’m not making a portrait of any real person. It’s more of an abstract collage. Here’s a photo of the first stages. There is not much to see at this [...]
I’ve just got back from a one day master class with the textile artist Alice Kettle. I met eight of the other finalists for the Charles Henry Foyle Trust award. It was an interesting day. The most enjoyable part for me was to meet up with other textile artists. We came from many different areas of [...]
I received some exciting news on Tuesday this week. I had a letter telling me that I have been accepted as a finalist in the last ever Charles Henry Foyle Trust competition. I heard about it from Design Matters, where I am taking my City and Guilds course. The competition is open to all students on [...]
