After feedback from Marie I have decided to go with the idea of spirals and colours fading to black and white. When I saw the sketches up on the computer screen, even before any comments from Marie, my instinct was to go with the spirals. As Marie pointed out – the metamorphosis ideas, which were influenced [...]
I sewed the quilt label onto the back of the quilt in the afternoon of New Year’s Eve as the final task to completion. So I did complete it in 2009. It wasn’t particularly my goal to finish in the old year, but it was a nice way to close the quilting year for me.
Looking back [...]
I have been off work since Monday. The weather has been pretty foul. Lots of snow and then the temperatures rose and we had rain on freezing ground. We braved it out on Tuesday and did all the shopping for Christmas. Since then I have had time to work on my reflections quilt. I was working [...]
At the weekend I finished the quilt top for my wall hanging assessment. The brown fabric works fine – enough contrast and quite how I imagined it. I am currently pondering how to do the quilting. As my C&G tutor Marie said: it would be great to link the quilting design with the initial inspiration in [...]
Thursday evening I received a phone call from out neighbour to say I should send Sqeze round – there was a large parcel for me in their hallway. They had kindly taken it in for us. Sqeze came back with a ginormous parcel, which turned out to be three parcels taped together and wrapped in brown [...]
Thanks to Wietske for passing on this piece of news to me. I don’t know how she found out about it. I was certainly blissfully unaware that I had been nominated the People’s Choice for my entry to the Charles Henry Foyle Award this year.
Wietske took a people’s award for technical excellence, which was [...]
In my gallery you can now see the album of photos taken at the exhibition. There is at least one image of all the different pieces. As you can see they were varied and interesting. If any one gets the chance to visit I can highly recommend it. Take time to read the workbooks (I didn’t [...]
Well I have the answer to my question as to the size of the piece. Wietske was kind enough to pass on the answer she received from Jo-Ann to the same question concerning the size constraints. Donna visited the museum and discussed her plans with Jo-Ann, the curator of the exhibition. She chose her spot and [...]
Well a couple of days have gone by since I got back from the UK and the opening of the exhibition. I have had time to reflect and collect my thoughts together. These are the things that I have learnt from taking part in the exhibition – both from the process up front and then from seeing all the entries for the award displayed together.

We’ve just got home from our weekend in the UK for the opening of the exhibition “Freedom” at the Forge Mill Needle Museum in Redditch. I came home empty handed as I didn’t take away any of the awards, but with a head full of impressions. It was a valuable learning experience for me. I have [...]
