Green bamboo

This is a small piece (about A3) based on a primary source. Here the primary source is the bamboo flooring that we put down in the first floor of the house last summer.

At the time we were busy laying it, I thought it would look good as a quilt top. Now [...]

Log cabin blocks

I’ve been making a couple of log cabin blocks as examples of strip piecing. Log cabin is, I think, my favourite traditional block. Not because it is a relatively easy block to piece, but because it has seemingly endless possibilities when creating a layout for the blocks. I looked through the various sources I [...]

Pumpkin pieces

This quilt is really still nameless as I haven’t come up with a suitable name yet. Creating the quilt top was part of Module 1 studying colour. In Module 2 (on line) I had to quilt it. The quilt design is inspired by the pumpkin itself – the outline of the fruit and the [...]

A bit of sewing too

There has not been much sewing yet in the activities, but there was some curved piecing. I thought the piece turned out quite interesting despite being a very simple exercise. The fabric is some of the bedding offcuts that I bought on ebay. It’s turned out to have been a useful investment.

Bias strip appliqué

My latest activity has been to make a quilt top using bias strip appliqué. The design was to be based on an image of lines. I had been collecting images of lines in a previous activity. Just as I was wondering which image to use as the basis for my design, the front cover [...]

Pumpkin inspired appliqué

This is what I was doing this Sunday, when I wasn’t bullying Sqeze into taking the photos for my last post. It is for the final activity in Module 1 of my C&G course. I was to do a piece of free appliqué based on a portion of or the whole painting of the [...]

It’s official

After a bit of soul searching and some very helpful comments by people on my blog and in the City & Guilds Textiles yahoo group I’ve made up my mind. I’ve enrolled to do the City & Guilds 7922-03 Patchwork and Quilting Certificate with the Kemshalls. One of the deciding factors that made me [...]

New sewing table finished

Yesterday evening we installed my new sewing table in my studio. It has been a long process getting the remains of the oil off the table top. It was getting rolled into sticky messes by the buffing pads and I was getting sick of washing out 6 pads after each new attempt at polishing. [...]

Where to go from here?

I’m hoping that there are some readers out there who may have some opinions they would share with me. As regular readers will know I have been taking online classes on a regular basis at the Quilt University. I have taken some excellent classes and had some excellent teachers, but I am finding it [...]

All change

Well I was successful at the second attempt and sold the Inspira quilting frame with the Pfaff GrandQuilter machine yesterday evening on eBay. I got a good price for it and the lady who bought it, also felt she had paid a fair price, so we are both happy. There were 3 people, from [...]
