I’ve been doing some tea stain dyeing this weekend. I’m taking the class at QU. It’s less hassle than dyeing with Procion dyes because you can do it all the kitchen. No nasty chemicals involved. We were given the choice of two mordants to try to fix the results – either white vinegar or alum. I decided to have a go using both to compare the effects.
Here are some images of the dyeing in progress and the first drying before fixing with the mordant solutions. I had some lovely pink results using mallow tea, wild forest berry tea and rosehip tea. The orangey brown shades with ordinary black tea were quite nice too.

These were the results before fixing:

The left hand samples were sat in the tea for one hour. Aren’t the pinks lovely?

These were samples with only 15 mins in the tea. Not such a difference.
