Dad’s portrait on the wall

Yesterday I picked up Dad’s portrait from having it framed. They have done a great job of framing it and it looks really good now up on the wall. He’s on the wall in the library and when I sit in my favourite chair in there, Dad is looking straight at me. I did consider hanging him over my desk in the “computer room”, but the light isn’t very good there. It would have been a nice place though – he could have watched me working on the computer like the photo of Mum watches me sewing in my studio.

So here is the framed portrait. One thing I learnt was that you need to allow more space around the edges than I did. I’m so glad they managed to get all of his head in and didn’t cut off a sliver on the left hand side.

This is the back to show how it was first put onto stretcher bars and then mounted in the frame. I had tried mounting it on stretcher bars myself, but it wasn’t very good. so they redid it and made a much more professional job (which is hardly surprising).

This shows the portrait up on the wall.

    Hi Ruth,

You’ve done a wonderful job – you should be really proud of yourself! Which room have you hung it in?

What a fantastic likeness! Your skill and efforts have captured the true spirit of Alan as we rememder him – a loyal friend with a hint of mischievousness!

It looks great on your library wall and will ensure he is never far from your thoughts.I feel priviledged to have seen the real thing.
