The follow up class to Self Expressions at QU has started. This week we had to make a series of postcards. As usual it took me much longer than the 10 minutes to decide on a theme. My first problem was that I’ve not made anything this small before and kept thinking of things you could do BIG but not small. Once I realised I had to scale down my ideas I sat in front of my button box, my seashells and then my pebbles and still had no idea where I was going. Finally I thought maybe I should just choose a colour and get started.
As I was pulling fabric from the cupboard I came across my small squares of Kudinda cloth from the African Fabric Shop. The guinea fowl squares in 3 different colour ways and one in a smaller scale were the ideal theme for something small. (The reason they were still in the cupboard was because of the small scale of the print.) The rest was easy. I chose fabric to match the different colour ways and then started trying out ideas. Once I got going I didn’t want to stop. We ended up eating an hour later than we usually do on Saturdays
Here are the finished results in order of appearance:

I think these guinea fowl postcards are lovely and I am really interested in sourcing the fabric. I keep guinea fowl on my farm and I think that cushions and throws with guinea fowl patterns on would look great in my house.
Thank you for the inspiration.
